Adding or removing a fully configured new node in the cluster typically takes less than 3 minutes.

The following screenshot shows a scale up that took 1 minute 54 seconds:

Scaling up the relational database server typically takes around 10 minutes, with the service being fully operational in the first 5 minutes:

  • A full snapshot is first taken in case something goes wrong (a couple of minutes)
  • The database host is upgraded (a couple of minutes)
  • Some maintenance operations are done for 3-4 minutes, during which the service is already available and fully operational for you.

Scaling a service is instantaneous: you can add more instances of your services at anytime.
